Stocklabs Features

Stock and Market Scores

One of the key features that Stocklabs offers is a set of algorithmically-derived scores for individual stocks, market sectors, and the US stock market as a whole. Many platforms offer automated stock scoring (i.e. VectorVest, Stock Rover, etc.), however, every software has a unique algorithm they use to rank stocks. The scores from Stocklabs are based on mean reversion, meaning they measure a stock or sector as overbought or oversold based on historical performance.

Stocklabs offers three different scores for each stock and market: fundamental, technical, and hybrid. The fundamental score is presented on a 0-100 scale, while the technical and hybrid scores have scales from 1-5 and algorithmically-defined overbought and oversold levels. Scores are calculated on 3-month, 6-month, 12-month, 10-year, 20-year, and 30-year timescales. Stocklabs recommends using the 12-month scores for evaluating normal market conditions.

Stocklabs OBOS Scores

While Stocklabs doesn’t offer information about exactly what goes into these scores, they’re relatively straightforward to interpret. The platform charts fundamental, technical, and hybrid scores over time and annotates signals on the charts anytime overbought and oversold levels are breached. Looking back over the past year, these overbought and oversold indicators have done a surprisingly good job of predicting bullish and bearish periods in the market.

Stock Analysis

Stocklabs offers detailed information about more than 5,600 US stocks, including small-cap and penny stocks. You can view stock scores, technical charts from TradingView, news, performance by month as far back as 1950, and historical returns compared to the S&P 500.

Stocklabs also tracks companies’ price-to-earnings, price-to-sales, and price-to-book ratios over time, making it easy to see how a company’s valuation has changed relative to itself and its industry peers. However, the platform does not offer tools for calculating a company’s fair value.

Stock Screener

Stocklabs offers a comprehensive stock screener to help you find trade and investment ideas. The screener offers more than 200 parameters, including filters for everything from performance to fundamentals. You can filter by fundamental, technical, and hybrid scores, and Pro users can also filter for stocks with short-term volume changes.

Stocklabs Screener

Screener results are displayed in a customizable table that allows you to add columns for any of the parameters that are available as filters. Simply hovering over a stock in the table will also bring up a preview of its technical chart. You cannot export filter results to a watchlist, but you can save custom screens for future use.

News Feed

Stocklabs offers a real-time stock news feed that draws stories from sources like InvestorNews, Briefing.com, FinancialJuice, Seeking Alpha, and Investor.com. The feed isn’t customizable, but you can filter it using ticker symbols or keywords. Stocklabs does not support news-based alerts.

Portfolios and Watchlists

Stocklabs supports custom portfolios and watchlists. Portfolios allow you to add trade details and track your performance over time. You can choose to make any portfolio public, and Stocklabs has a list of public portfolios – along with their performance – for you to browse and follow.

Trading Chat

Stocklabs has its own trading chat room, which it calls the Pelican Room. The chat room doesn’t offer subchannels for specific conversations, but you can filter the chat by keyword, stock ticker, or user.

Customization and Layout

Stocklabs is well-laid out, and the browser-based platform is easy to navigate. An overview dashboard provides a quick look at fundamental and technical scores for the overall market, the performance of your portfolios and watchlists, and the latest stock news.

However, Stocklabs doesn’t offer many ways to customize the platform. You cannot create alerts, and there’s no way to change the default layout of Stocklabs. This is somewhat frustrating as a miniaturized news feed is present on all pages and cannot be hidden.

Stocklabs Platform Differentiators

The main feature that differentiates Stocklabs from other stock analysis platforms is its algorithmically-derived stock and market scores. These scores are unique in that they grade not only stocks but market sectors and the entire US market. You can view scores calculated over different timeframes for short-term trading and long-term investing, and the scores appear to accurately predict bullish and bearish periods in the market.

Stocklabs also does a better job than competing platforms with some specific stock analysis tools. For example, it’s very easy to track a company’s valuation ratios over time and to compare those ratios against industry competitors. The Stocklabs stock screener is also impressively comprehensive, and the results table is highly customizable.

What Type of Trader is Stocklabs Best For?

Stocklabs is suitable for a wide variety of traders and investors. The platform is well-designed for active investors who can use the technical and hybrid stock scores to identify buying and selling opportunities. The news feed and trading chat are also especially helpful for active traders and investors. Longer-term investors will appreciate the stock scores as well as Stocklabs’ valuation tracking and portfolio tools.

Day traders may want to think twice about Stocklabs. The timeframes of the stock scores are too long to inform day trades, and Stocklabs does not integrate with any brokerage platforms. However, Pro users can access volume-based scanning tools that can be very useful for identifying breakouts.

Pros

  • Algorithmic scores for stocks, sectors, and the overall market
  • Straightforward valuation tracking
  • Comprehensive stock screener
  • Build and follow custom portfolios
  • Trading chat room

Cons

  • No free trial
  • Layout is not customizable
