Insider Screener Features

Top Insider Activity Lists

Insider Screener monitors insider trading activity for more than 34,000 stocks across global markets. It tracks stocks on multiple exchanges in the US, UK, Canada, Europe, India, and Australia.

The platform uses algorithms to automatically identify unusual insider buying or selling activity and aggregates this data into lists. For example, there are lists of “Top Insider Buys” and “Top Insider Sells” that include companies for which one executive is buying or selling a large volume of shares.

Insider Screener - Unusual Insider Activity

Two of the really noteworthy lists are the “Top Cluster Buys” and “Top Cluster Sells” lists. These highlight companies where multiple insiders are buying or selling large volumes of stock within  a short period of time. Stocks on these lists are excellent candidates to watch for upcoming price moves.

Insider Activity Analysis

Insider Screener offers more details about insider activity for all of the stocks it tracks. You can see:

  • Which insiders bought or sold stock
  • When the trades were made
  • How much stock they traded
  • The percent change in the insider’s holdings
  • How much each trade was worth

The platform offers historical data going back 20 years as well as summary statistics highlighting total insider buying and selling activity over the last 90 days. You can screen the data to view only buys or sells, transactions by specific officers, transactions above a threshold value, and more. You can also download the screened data to a CSV for further analysis in Excel.

Insider Screener also displays insider trading activity on a price chart. It’s easy to see when buying or selling activity spiked and whether this activity was likely in response to major changes in a stock’s price.

Stock Screener

Insider Screener offers a basic stock screener that lets you filter by country, market cap, and sector.

The results table displays the number of insiders buying shares, the total value bought, the percentage of the stock’s float bought, and the percentage of shares held by insiders. The table is sorted according to an “insider activity score,” but Insider Screener doesn’t offer any information about how this is calculated.

Insider Screener - Screener

The screener is a nice tool for finding stocks in specific industries that have significant insider buying activity. However, it could be significantly improved if more filters were available or the results could be sorted according to a column other than the insider activity score. Unfortunately, you cannot export data from the screener.

Watchlist

Insider Screener lets you add an unlimited number of stocks to a watchlist. The watchlist shows recent transactions from companies you’re following. You can also turn on email alerts to be notified of any new transactions at companies you follow.

Insider Screener Platform Differentiators

Insider Screener is one of a handful of tools you can use to track insider trading activity. Other options include Insider Alerts and InsiderCow.

Compared to either of these tools, Insider Screener offers significantly more value. Insider Alerts only covers around 1,500 US stocks and doesn’t have any screening tools. InsiderCow offers a screener similar to the one that Insider Screener has, but InsiderCow is significantly more expensive.

Insider Alerts is also the only tool we’ve seen that uses algorithms to curate lists of companies with unusual insider trading activity. This makes the platform much more powerful since you can quickly find companies that might be candidates for trades.

What Type of Trader Is Insider Screener Best For?

Insider Screener is ideal for traders and active investors who want to use insider trading activity as a signal for whether a company is bullish or bearish. While insider activity isn’t a perfect indicator of a stock’s future, it does provide insights into whether a company’s leadership team thinks the company is headed in the right direction.

You can use Insider Screener to generate ideas thanks to the curated lists of stocks with unusual insider activity. Alternatively, you can create a watchlist for stocks you’re already trading to get email alerts about new insider activity.
