Discovering Trading Strategies with WallStreet.io

WallStreet.io is all about helping traders develop consistently profitable trading strategies. The best place for new traders to get started is with WallStreet.io’s library of user-generated strategies.

Every time a trader builds a strategy within WallStreet.io, the platform automatically backtests it. If it has a win rate of more than 60% and an average gain that’s double its average loss, the strategy gets added to WallStreet.io’s library. There are currently more than 260,000 trading strategies in WallStreet.io’s library.

WallStreetio - Discover

The good news is that the platform offers several ways to quickly find the best-performing strategies.

First, you can narrow down the list of strategies based on how they backtest against particular stocks. You can search for strategies that have historically performed well for specific ticker symbols or stocks within a certain price range. You can further filter strategies based on their average win rate, risk-reward ratio, average trade length, average gain and loss, maximum drawdown, and more.

WallStreetio - Filtering Strategies

This is kind of like a stock screener, but for trading strategies. You can sort your scan results based on any of the backtesting metrics, like win rate or trade duration. If you search strategies against a watchlist rather than a specific ticker symbol, WallStreet.io will show you which ticker each strategy has performed best with.

If you simply want to jump onto WallStreet.io and find the best trading strategies to use right now with any stock, you can do that, too. WallStreet.io assigns an A-F grade to every strategy and uses a proprietary formula to rank them. The rankings aren’t solely based on performance, but also factors like consistency and drawdown.

WallStreetio - Strategy Details

When you open the Discover module to find a strategy to trade, you can see the overall top-ranked strategies and which stock they perform best with. You can also narrow your search to only include strategies that have triggered a trade opening signal during the current market session.

You can follow an unlimited number of trading strategies within WallStreet.io. When you follow a strategy, you’ll get an email alert anytime it triggers a trade open or close. These alerts can be customized, but by default you’ll receive an email digest with all of your trade alerts an hour before market close each day. That gives you just enough time to open or close positions.

Analyzing & Customizing Trading Strategies

Once you have a trading strategy, you can dig into it. WallStreet.io’s charting platform enables you to plot all of the strategy’s trades for a single ticker. It also automatically displays all of the indicators that the backtest uses. If you change tickers, the backtest results will update almost instantly.

You can also edit any of the strategy’s conditions to create your own custom strategy. WallStreet.io doesn’t have any strategy optimization features, but the backtest results update so quickly that it’s easy to play around with different parameters. The list of indicators for building strategies is also more limited than you might expect. Most strategies in WallStreet.io are based on some combination of MACD, Heikin-Ashi candlesticks, moving average crossovers, stochastics, RSI, and ADX.

WallStreetio - Strategy Conditions

The upshot of this is that WallStreet.io is a terrific tool if you want to find and apply strategies that already exist on the platform. If you want to build and backtest your own strategies, platforms like TradingView, Trade Ideas, and FinViz offer better optimization tools and wider selections of indicators.

Trade Journal

WallStreet.io doesn’t integrate with any brokers, but you can keep track of your trades using the platform’s built-in trade journal. All trades have to be entered manually, which can be a little bit of a hassle. You can take notes on your trades, but you can’t tag trades or assign specific strategies to them.

WallStreetio - Trade Journal

All in all, the trade journal is helpful to have, but it’s not a replacement for a dedicated journaling software like TraderSync or TraderVue.

WallStreet.io Community & Education

WallStreet.io’s community-centric approach doesn’t stop at crowdsourcing trading strategies. The platform also has a chat function with channels for day trading, swing trading, income trading, and more. There are also nightly market recaps, which take the form of live webinars that all WallStreet.io users can join.

WallStreetio - Market Recap

There are additional live webinars on most days of the week. These are led by WallStreet.io’s professional trading team and highlight examples of specific types of trading, like breakout trading.

WallStreet.io also has some very impressive educational videos to help traders get the most out of this platform. For example, there’s a course on how to trade using Heikin-Ashi charts, which play an important role in many strategies on WallStreet.io. A few of the courses are paid content, but most are included with your WallStreet.io membership.

WallStreet.io Platform Differentiators

WallStreet.io is a really unique platform. Whereas other strategy backtesting platforms leave you to build your own strategy and then test it, WallStreet.io leans on its community to deliver more than 260,000 ready-to-run trading strategies. It backtests all of these strategies and then offers actionable filters so that you can find the best strategy to use for any stock at any moment.

The result is that you can go onto WallStreet.io, find a strategy that is triggering now, and place a trade all in a matter of minutes. As you follow strategies and build watchlists, it becomes even easier to drill down to actionable trades based on the community-generated trading strategies.

The speed with which WallStreet.io runs backtests is also impressive. If you change what ticker you’re looking at or modify a strategy’s parameters, you’ll receive updated 10-year backtest results almost instantly. In platforms like Trade Ideas, running a new backtest like this could take 10 seconds or longer. While that may not seem huge, it makes a big difference when you want to test out a large number of ideas quickly.

What Type of Trader is WallStreet.io Best For?

WallStreet.io is a very powerful tool for swing traders. Most of the strategies on the platform have trade lengths ranging from 2-14 days. The risk-reward ratio for highly rated trades is usually around 1:3, which is a reasonable target for most day and swing traders.

It’s important to note that WallStreet.io is significantly better as a strategy discovery tool rather than a strategy building tool. The platform doesn’t offer a way to optimize a custom strategy or run a sensitivity analysis. It’s much easier to find the top-ranking community-generated strategy for the stock you want to trade than it is to create your own strategy from scratch.
